Part 1
It was about his tenth visit into the estranged woods, and it began like all the others. He was simply walking by a certain open area in the trees, never the same spot, and even though his mind was elsewhere, his body would turn and unwillingly lead him into the trees.
Each time he entered the trees, it was never planned to do so.
When he first encountered the light from within the trees and the other times after, once it was out of his sight and he was home he never even thought back to the light. It was as if it never happened, he couldn’t remember why his shoes were covered in dirt, and on some occasions leaves were stuck in his hair when he got home. He didn’t know why, and wouldn’t even care to think hard about what might of happened.
Only when he remembered the light was when his body veered him towards it.
The third time before the tenth, he was able to remember everything, and each time he thought about it, which was quite often, he broke out into tremors and a cold sweat. Wiping his mind blank of his previous thoughts and just to the terrified worry of when he would be lead back to the trees.
And now he found himself angling towards those damned trees again, his feet and legs moving without his permission. If it was up to him, he would have stopped his legs, and just sat himself right down on the ground and sit there until the desire to move was available. But, he couldn’t do this and had no choice but to keep going, his whole body was shaking, and he found himself wanting to throw up or maybe just cry, he had a really bad feeling about it this time, but nevertheless his feet would not stop, no matter how hard his brain screamed to his limbs and muscles!
Deeper and deeper his feet took him into the dark woods, that always seemed friendly and open enough to one just walking by it, but to him, these woods were just dark and evil, everything in these woods were cruel and unfriendly, and so badly did he not want to be walking further into them.
By the time he was coated in sweat, his hands were numb with fright and his eyes were burning from the constant stream of tears that had flowed since he had lost control of his feet, he finally encountered it.
Now floating about two feet from where his feet finally stopped him, hummed the bright blue light of an unknown source, it appeared to almost pulse with some hidden desire.
Matt stared at it, in all the times he had seen this light, this strange and alien light, he’d never seen it so… alive. The tears had now stopped, his heart was beating so fast it quite literally hurt his chest and his head had exploded into a painful migraine. But still, he could not turn and flee. He couldn’t run from it’s sight, it was as if it held him with invisible binds; he stood frozen, only the viewer in this particular meeting, his body was there, as was the light, and Matt seemed to be just there. Not being able to move a muscle on his body, he had absolutely no control now.
Once it felt the presence of it’s latest being, it glow brightened and it indeed began to pulse, like a heartbeat. It was excited.
And now he was standing but two feet away, his energy could already be tasted.
He stood paralyzed like all the others, eyes frozen wide open, hands clamped tight into frightened fists. But the power the light had over it’s victims was so strong, they couldn’t move in the slightest to get away. They just merely had to stand and watch.
…pulse…pulse…pulse…
His heartbeat quickened, his hair was matted to his head from sweat, he was practically vibrating he shook so hard. He was beyond scared at this point.
He knew, in the terrible way that people just know, this was his last moment. His last beautiful moment of being, and the worst of it. No one knew where he was, he was all alone.
Pulse, pulse, pulse…
His mouth fell open, and he was panting so hard his breath was coming in raspy gasps, he had wet his pants and his hands and fingers were now dead white, lost from circulation.
PULSE, PULSE, PULSE
The light burst open!
Everywhere and everything around him went white, a dazzling white light with a tinge of blue. When people have near death experiences, they say that they saw and light and it was beautiful. This light was not beautiful!
It glowed so bright, and hot, that it was not beautiful. It was terrifying. All that was in this light was doom. And somehow, even though nothing touched him except this light, it was painful!
He screamed, a blood curdling scream!
But no one would hear this scream, it was lost in these trees… It was lost with only the light as it’s witness… The only thing for miles that would hear it were the animals who resided in the trees, who scurried back into their homes, waiting for the danger to be over.
Matt’s screams lasted a good ten seconds, that whole ten seconds was pain to him…
Then the light faded, back to it’s small, blue light.
Matt was gone, not a trace.
The light still pulsed, but now with the new amounts of energy and spirit it had just stolen.
It streaked through the forest, a very happy bulb of light, shot in between and around trees, then it shot right up into the clouds. So fast and so bright that no one saw a thing.
Soaring across the sky in search of it’s new source of energy. It’s new addition to the many spirits it already carried. ..
It was in search for it’s newest soul.
